About

Shaun is the CEO and owner of CADFMconsultants and the media brand Not Just CAD. Shaun is also the company’s lead instructor and consultant. With over 38 years of experience and expertise using Autodesk software, Shaun started his career back in 1988 on AutoCAD (possibly AutoCAD R10 for MS-DOS, if his memory serves him well).

Shaun is affectionally known as ‘SCB‘ to his friends and colleagues and is sometimes known by his old forum nickname ‘CADjedi‘. Shaun is a staunch advocate of learning and is a dedicated educator and instructor whose sole aim is to ensure that all CAD users know the difference between the Model tab and the Layout tab.

His anecdotal speaking style and infectious sarcasm, with his trademark AI cynicism, has gained him thousands of followers from all over the world, along with being a world-class speaker at Autodesk University (AU) for the last 20 years. At AU2025 in Nashville, he finally won a coveted Top-Rated Speaker Award for his AU class: “Shipshape 2.0: Smarter Standards and Leaner Layers with AI in AutoCAD“.

His relaxed teaching style as a LinkedIn Learning [in]structor has also taught over 500K learners how to use AutoCAD using his learning content in the LinkedIn Learning library, and as an Autodesk SME (Subject Matter Expert), he also mentors newbie AU speakers as they start their AU Speaker journey for the first time.

Shaun is also a staunch advocate of community, owning the Not Just CAD User Group (NJCUG), which is a member of the Autodesk Group Network. As an Autodesk Group Leader, Shaun works closely with Autodesk to build, maintain, and manage not only his user group but the group network as a whole.

It has been said that he is sometimes mistaken as the stunt double for Ricky Gervais, and various residents of the United States have also confirmed that he sounds like the Geico Gecko. Shaun often jokingly refers to himself as the ‘token Brit in the room’ due to his English demeanour and his penchant for the humour of Monty Python, Morecambe & Wise, and The Two Ronnies. He is also a huge fan of Star Wars and Wallace & Gromit.

When he is not doing the CAD thing, you will find him with at least one DeWalt power tool, refurbishing his house in East Yorkshire in the UK.

Shaun works at home out of his self-built office and podcast recording studio, known as ‘The Workshop’. And, practicing what he preaches, it was designed with AutoCAD desktop and AutoCAD Mobile on his iPad. It also houses his entire Lego collection, as well as every badge from every conference he has attended.
